ICYM Kallianpur Deanery Yuva Samagam 2017

Udupi Diocese: Kallianpur Deanery level Yuva Samagam 2017 was organized by ICYM Kemman Unit & was held at the St. Philomena School auditorium, Kemman.

The day long Yuva Samagam included inauguration, Youth Catechism (Youcat), Holy Eucharistic celebration, valedictory function and cultural programmes. Around 200 youth from 9 parishes of Kallianpur Deanery participated in the Yuva Samagam 2017.

The Yuva Samagam 2017 was formally inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the Chief Guest, Fr Stephen Dsouza - resource person for Youth Catechism, Fr. Victor Dsouza - Parish Priest Kemman, Dorathy Andrade and Jason Dlima - Animators of ICYM Kemman, Melcon Lewis -President of ICYM Kallianpur Deanery, Aral Dsouza and Melita Crasta - President and Joint Secretary of ICYM Kemman respectively.
Aral Dsouza - President of ICYM kemman welcomed the gathering, Melita Crasta - Joint Secretary delivered the vote of thanks, Michelle Fernandes - ICYM unit member introduced the resource person of the day. Crissane Dais - ICYM unit member compered the event.

Fr Stephan Dsouza stressed upon the importance of the Youth Catechism (Youcat) in modern times and narrated its evolution. Youcat is a 2011 publication that aims to be an aid for youth to better understand the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The book, drafted in the form of a conversation, is intended for use by Catholic youth around the world and is available in 25 languages. Youcat is based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1997) and the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (2005). The catechism has 304 pages and consists of four chapters with 527 questions and answers. The foreword was written by Pope Benedict XVI. Approximately 700,000 copies of Youcat were distributed in 13 different languages on behalf of the Pope during World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid.

The YOUCAT explains the following: What Catholics believe and why (doctrine). How Catholics celebrate the mysteries of the faith (sacraments). How Catholics are to live (moral life). How they should pray (prayer and spirituality).

After the Holy Mass and lunch, the ICYM members once again assembled in the hall at 2 pm for the cultural programme competition. Each of the 9 parishes was assigned 15 minutes during which they were required to present a skit and a dance.

Soon after the end of the competition, the valedictory function was held. Fr. Stany B Lobo - Rector of Milagres Cathedral & Vicar Forane of Kallianpur Deanery presided over the valedictory function. Other dignitaries on the dais included Fr. Leslie Dsouza- ICYM Director Kallianpur Deanary, Fr. Rolwin Aranha - ICYM assistant director, Fr. Victor Dsouza- Kemmannu parish priest, Fr. Anil Castelino- Kolalgiri parish Asst Priest Milagres, Charles Lewis - Vice President Kemman Parish, Aral Dsouza - Kemman Unit President, Melcon Lewis- Kallianpur Deanery ICYM President, Sharline Dsa  ICYM Diocese President, Don Dsouza- ICYM Diocese Vice President, Michelle Ferrao- ICYM Karkal Deanery President.

Fr Victor Dsouza appreciated the work done by the ICYM members of Kemman in organizing the Yuva Samagam 2017 and giving an opportunity to the youth of the Kallianpur Deanery to have the rich experience of the Youcat.

The ICYM team of Kolalgiri Parish were the winners and the ICYM team of Mt. Rosary Church were the runners up. Melcon Lewis - ICYM Kallianpur Deanery President welcomed the gathering and Jovita - ICYM Kallianpur Deanery Secretary concluded the programme with vote of thanks.
